The U3 comes in a neat, minimalist package very much reminiscent of the iPod nano’s albeit with a brighter and more outdoorsy theme. Along the same lines, the U3 ships with a set of very white and very Apple-esque earbuds, which like the ones included with iPods should be discarded in favour of something better.Unlike Apple’s MP3 creations, you don’t have to shell out extra for FM radio and voice recording. The U3’s radio is one of the best we’ve used in an MP3 player, playing back many stations within our office with only minimal interference. Pity then that you can’t record from radio.
The U3 comes with a respectable amount of accessories, including a cable organizer that matches the included headphones and the device itself. While the color scheme-matching is certainly cute, the included headphones are pretty atrocious. Ignoring the mediocre sound, we were unable to keep the earbuds in for longer than 15 minutes before our ears began to hurt. The clip was a nice addition, letting us clip the U3 to our shirt, jacket or pants. Paired with the rubberized surface of the device, it makes the U3 perfect for the gym, running or any other physical activity that doesn’t require aural alertness.
Transferring music from the computer is very simple with the Samsung YP-U3. This MP3 player actually has a built-in USB connector, so there is no need for a USB cable. The USB connector pops out like a switchblade and it plugs directly into the computer.
